Art Explorations
Summer is a great time to dive into art and design. In Art Explorations, you will create specific art forms varying weekly, all the while developing your skills and learning alongside fellow art explorers. Whether you explore 2-D, 3-D, mixed media, or even technology-based art, it's all up to you the artist.. You'll be able to choose from a variety of themes for your project as your facilitator helps you perfect your technique. Be ready to create Art and to have fun learning about it. Puppets with Pizzazz
Participants will explore art and art making in an active, hands-on way! The session will focus on art as story telling (narrative art), with inspiration coming from famous works of art as well as children’s literature (writing and illustration). Students will be developing visual literacy skills by acting out and recreating famous works of art. They will be creating their own narrative art and telling stories with student created puppets made from re-cycled materials and found objects. Kinder-Camp (FULL)
Do you have a child who will be entering Kindergarten in the coming year? Kinder Camp can help them overcome those first-day jitters, practice basic Kindergarten skills, and build relationships with teachers. Students will participate in fun activities that will have them looking forward to the first day of school! We'll use interactive technology, Play-Doh, arts and crafts, and so much more! Let's Go to Mexico!
Take a journey with us to Mexico to discover the uniqueness of its people, food, and culture. Our projects will include boarding an airplane, learning the Geography of Mexico, counting in Spanish, visiting a Mexican Marketplace, celebrating different holidays/traditions such as (Day of the Dead, & Independence Day) along with making art, food, playing games and singing songs that go with each holiday/tradition. Take To The Skies: Aviation Camp
Fly into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) as we explore aviation and aerospace together! We'll investigate careers in aviation, learn about aerodynamics, explore aircraft and aviation safety, experience drone technology, and see how weather impacts aviation! Farming Fun
An educational, active and fun camp revolving around teaching students about agriculture. Students will dig into the science of how the food on their plates come into existence in an interactive and hands-on way! Campers will celebrate the idea of where their food comes from (not the grocery store!) through games, crafts, farm tours and even picking and growing their own plants for harvest. But the fun doesn’t stop there with plants... campers will have opportunities to even touch, feel and be around animals to discuss their importance in the agriculture sector and to the human lifestyle. Agriculture is a necessity for every meal, every home and every piece of clothing we own. Let your kids learn from the start how to support and become involved in agriculture! Camp will end with a Fun Finale Art Show where their art work will be proudly displayed. If you’re looking for ways to engage your child in new and exciting experiences this summer, check out Surry County Schools Elementary STEM Academy (science, technology, engineering and math). Rising 5th grade students will imagine, collaborate, explore and create, all while learning super cool STEM skills that will help them in school and in life. Let's explore the many career options in our local neighborhood! Participants will get first-hand experience with tours of the police station, fire station, parks & rec., local businesses, farm, and so much more! This will be hands-on and include several field trips. There will be a combination of hands-on career activities, field trips, and outdoor activities. Made In Surry - 3 Day Camp
Ever wonder what is made in Surry County? What about how it's made? You will see first-hand different businesses and what they produce. You'll learn about farm to table, how granite countertops are made, buildings, wire products, socks and so much more! Participants will get to tour 2-3 businesses per day and learn what is made in Surry County. Hands-on and outdoor activities will be included as well.
